My Story

Like most of us, I grew up on the standard American diet, and the 1992 food pyramid. No one told me that what you eat matters, it was something I never really thought about. I was always drawn to nature, and wondered as a kid if I would find the cure for cancer like those dreamy kids on T.V. But I didn’t know what I was passionate about or what I would do when I grew up, so I held off on going to a university. I didn’t want to spend thousands of dollars not even knowing why I was there. ūüėČ

So I went to my small town’s community college in Yakima Valley to get my AA until I found my passion. There I met my husband, Travis, and after we were married I found it. A couple from church, Dennis & Megan Niehbuhr, gave us a DVD called, The Beautiful Truth, about the Gerson Therapy discovered and developed by Dr. Max Gerson in the 1920s. This Therapy helps to cure¬†people of cancer and other disease with intense nutritional & detox therapy and body’s own immune system. People who were told they only had months left to live and sent home to say their goodbyes. My jaw literally dropped. People actually had hope and there was a chance they didn’t have to die or suffer. From there I read the book Healing The Gerson Way, by Charlotte Gerson. I knew that this was the HOPE I wanted others to know, that the body has an amazing ability to heal and recover, and it starts within.¬†

When I took a Nutrition class at YVCC and I thought to myself that I would NEVER want to become a nutritionist because to me, it was boring career telling people what their statistical¬†risk of heart disease was, their BMI, the food pyramid, and pills. I didn’t understand there was actual change & hope in it. Now I do. Now I know, that what we¬†eat and how we live matters. Whether you know it or not, your health matters to you, because it helps give you a life worth living for your family and your purpose. I am also strongly passionate about this because I feel that people have been wronged and lied to about our health. We have been taught¬†the wrong nutritional advice for decades, told that the answer is always in a pill, we can only help treat symptoms, and there isn’t much hope for a cure.

‚ÄúPeople are fed by the FOOD industry, which pays no attention to HEALTH…and are treated by the HEALTH industry, which pays no attention to FOOD.‚ÄĚ ¬†-Wendell Berry

It hurts me to hear about people who are getting cancer or other diseases and don’t have hope that their body can heal.¬†It hurts me that so many people are suffering from otherwise preventable diseases because they don’t know there is a better way.

There are many alternative cancer & disease therapies that help the immune system work again, and mainstream medicine is int he midst of a paradigm shift. Many doctors are turning to Functional Medicine as the answer to understanding and treating the causes of disease instead of just threating symptoms.

My goal is to help spread awareness, hope, and power to those who want to give themselves the best health they can have now and later in life. As a health coach, that means I help with the . Health takes you where you want to go, helps you achieve your dreams (whatever they are), it gives you the chance to be there for your grandkids and live with purpose and selflessness even in old age. One of my goals is to be able to be the awesomest old ladies ever, with spunk, energy, life, wisdom and purpose.

In 2015 I finally started my education at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition to be certified as a nutritional health coach so I could follow my dream of helping others find hope and health.

IIN focuses on health holistically. Health is more than the foods you eat. In fact, the food we eat is called “Secondary Food,” because it comes second. “Primary Food” comes first. It’s our relationships, physical activity, spirituality, and career. ¬†I really like that the school holds to that perspective. I mean, what’s the point of eating celery and kale if we’re sad, alone, in a relationship that holds us down and a job we don’t like?

I provide a safe, judgement-free space for my clients to decide what their health goals are and make a plan to reach them. As your health coach, I will help guide you and you lead the way. I would love to find out more about you, and invite you to work with me. To schedule a free health consultation with me, fill out the Health Consultation form on the Work with Me page. ¬†ūüôā

Why faith, hope, love, health?

I believe that health has a lot to do with what you eat, but it’s also a lot more than that.

Do you want to take a step toward health?

Have FAITH that you are WORTH it. You were beautifully and wonderfully made, and created with purpose. You are created in the image of the one, true God. That means you’re more kick ass than you might think! God has a plan for you. Step out in faith and let me help you get healthy!

Have HOPE that you can be healthy. It’s never too late to start now. No matter how crappy and despairing you feel about you feel about your health, there is always the possibility to change. There is always Hope.

It’s all about LOVE. I know that fear can keep us from moving forward and make us stuck, but love is the reason for change.¬†Love is action, and it makes sacrifices when needed. Love is giving and gives life. When you invest in your¬†healthy future, you will be¬†giving a better version of you to others and you’ll be your best self for them when they need it. Love yourself & others and take the next step with me.

I love my cats! Their names: Mittens, Sushi, Nori, & Kato.

I want to build and live in a Cob House someday! Click here to read my article on why to go cob.

I love learning, having an open mind and philosophizing. I am optimistic and believe the best in others.

I believe that we all have an primal fear that wants to keep us safe and alive…but, as Elizabeth Gilbert says, it’s the most boring thing about us. That same fear can keep us from really living our life to our¬†fullest. I think that’s a part of what life is all about: growing in courage.¬†Overcoming¬†fear & shame and growing in love & hope.

I made up this three word motto years ago: Live.Learn.Love. First you live, then you learn to love. When you love, then you learn to live.

Fear keeps us paralyzed but love takes action and makes sacrifices, love does the right thing even if motivation or feelings are not there. Love brings us life, and it opens our eyes to see beauty,¬†truth, hope, and the courage to have faith. We are made in the image of a wonderful creator God, who is Love and his biggest gift to us Life. That’s what our creator ever wanted for us.¬†He has a purpose for each one of us: to love and live life to the fullest.

And yet we all struggle in our shame & fear and it holds us back. We all have some pain and emptiness. But despite this sin in us, God wants to restore us. To do this, his plan was that the greatest act of Love would bring us the greatest Life. His son died in our place and took our fear & shame so we could heal, and he came back from the grave so we could not only have love & life, but a promise of eternal life.

  • Jesus said, ‚ÄúThis is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. ¬†Great34025_401363936821_5592186_ner love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:12-13)
  • “We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.” (1 John 4:16).

So when it comes to our health I believe faith, hope, and love are¬†important. I have faith that we have purpose & our health is a way to fulfill that. I have hope to never give up even if we fall off the wagon, and the hope that we are not a lost cause–it’s never too late to do something about our health, and hope that healing is possible. I have¬†Love for myself to eat & treat myself right, and love for others to share this hope I have with others too.
