It’s autumn again, so people get ready! Cold and Flu season….
So I wanted to compile EVERYTHING you can do to help cure your cold & flu faster with all-natural yet potent remedies!
(NO ONE likes getting sick!~DUH!) The changing of the season and lack of sunshine means we are more susceptible!) Be kind to yourself.
Practice Healthy Habits Like:
~Wash your hands after cleaning a home & separating dirties
~Clean light fixtures & door handles where people touch
~Avoid touching your eyes, nose, mouth (that’s where you catch it!!)
~Avoid close contact if one of you is sick!
~Cover your coughs and sneezes, mouth and nose with a tissue
~Stay home if you are sick with the flu
If you do get sick:
Here is a list of natural remedies which may speed along recovery. (You can research them online for how-to’s):
#22 Essential oil aromatherapy. I use Young Living THIEVES which is shown to kill bacteria and fight viruses! Take internally and also clean with it!
#21 Oil Pulling with coconut oil!! This is a major detox when you are sick. Do as soon as you get a little tickle in your throat! (I use non-flavored because it prevents gag reflex.)
#20 Coconut oil, anti-biotic properties and it burns as fuel in your body so it gives you an energy boost., and other healthy fats which sustain you and heal you.
#19 Vit C. Duh! Everyone says this! Did you know that large amounts of Vit C helps kill cancer cells?
#18 Bone Broth (Canned chicken soup isn’t for colds, Bone Broth IS -it’s actually medicinal. How to make it HERE.
#17 Fermented Vegetables (Homemade sauerkraut, fermented veggies are the best.)
#16 Raw Garlic (potent antibiotic!) -Raw Garlic, crushed is the most potent anti-biotic you don’t need a prescription for!
#15 RAW apple cider vinegar (ACV), You can use it to make this yummy tea: Fill mug with Fresh Lemon Juice, slices of fresh ginger, a small squeeze of raw honey, and dash of Cayenne pepper. Fill with very warm water, add a pour of Apple Cider Vinegar.
#14 Drink “golden milk” (turmeric has been used to treat colds & flus for 100s of years.) Look up how to make golden paste, and use to make golden milk! The reason black pepper is in the recipe is because it increases the bio-availability of the active compound, curcumin, by 3,000%!!!!!!!!
#13 Take a shot of Master Tonic AKA “Fire Cider“! This will clear you up and boost your immune system. It contains powerful antibiotic properties. It has also been called “fire cider.” This takes two weeks to brew but it has been considered a cold-flu-plague BOMB! Once you make this, you will have it on hand when someone in your family is sick. Buy equal parts: red onion, ginger, horseradish, habanero peppers (or another hot pepper), and garlic cloves, and tumeric root.(I didn’t have tumeric root so I added a TBSP of tumeric powder. (Maybe you end up with 1 cup of each, that’s great. Don’t worry if it’s not perfectly to ratio.) Chop or put through your food processor. Add all the chopped up ingredients to a jar large enough to fit and pour apple cider vinegar on top to cover. Let sit on your kitchen counter in a place where you will pass by and give it a shake or two. Let brew for at least two weeks. It’s ready to take at two weeks! Mine’s ready and it’s strong! I am letting mine go for two more weeks to let it get even stronger. When done brewing, strain mixture and get rid of the pulp (unless you have a clever cooking use for it.) 🙂 *Be sure to wear gloves when handling the pepper and the mixture containing the peppers.

#12 Avoid mucus or congesting causing foods, like milk, dairy, and gluten!
#11 Hydrogen peroxide in the ears for 15min ea
#10 Enough sleep: aim for 7-9hrs, maybe more if sick.
#9 Reduce stress: feel joy & love, breathe and have fun!
#8 Think and be positive: your immune system responds to your mood and your belief in getting well
#7 Green vegetables. (minerals strengthen the immune system & protect the integrity of your DNA –viruses can penetrate cell membranes) Your green leafy vegetables are the most alkalizing–sickness likes acidic environments.
#6 Cut out Sugar. It disables our white blood cells for 5 hours after consumption. -NO SUGAR, it weakens your immune system so much that it leads to sickness! Sugar is also acidic, feeds cancer, yeast and contributes to disease and diabetes.
#5 Very HOT baths or steam showers: it’s like when your body has a fever it heats up to kill off those buggers…doing this will make it easier. Steam rooms are awesome for this.
#4 Tumeric (an anti-inflammatory & has been used 100’s of years as a cure for cold & flu.) Make a tumeric paste and drink “golden milk” every day. The curcumin in tumeric lowers inflammatory cytokines throughout the whole body. If you take it with black pepper extract, it will work extremely more effectively.
#3 Drink Fluids, esp WATER. We should drink about half your body weight in oz. There are many ways to flavor your water, like with non-caffeinated teas, or fresh fruit. The best way I know how to drink water is: to carry a water bottle with me wherever I go…The ones with the straws make it easy. People complain they can’t drink that much water but when a straw is sticking out of a BIG BIG GULP, how easy it is to get that down! I think when you have a straw, it just makes it easier than trying to gulp from a cup.-Lots of water, rest, and de-stress. Your body is telling you do re-focus on yourself, slow down & take it easy and think about how your emotional health could also tied to your physical health. 🙂
#2 VIT D: as important as or better than a flu shot!
“Colds are a leading cause of doctor visits and missed days from work and school, and this season is no exception…But why do people start getting sick as the leaves start to fall?
…as temperatures drop, we begin to congregate indoors and spend less time in the sun. This means our vitamin D levels begin to drop, and we are more apt to spread viruses from one person to another.” (Dr. Joseph Mercola, from article mercola.com, here: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2009/12/03/how-to-prevent-the-flu-easy-as-1-2-3.aspx)
Vit D is responsible for regulating over 2,000 genes in our body, and has so much to do with our health. The sun is the best way to get your vitamin D. Unfortunately, in the Fall & winter, you’re not getting much sun. Dr. Mercola recommended on Dr. Oz’s show that having a short 3 min tanning booth session was acceptable for getting vit D and although controversial, he said that if you maintain a healthy diet with lots of vegetables, you can protect yourself from risk of skin cancer, but if you want to be on the safer side, Take at least 5,000 IU of Vit D a day, but be sure to purchase a Vit D supplement that also includes: K2! The reason being, is that K2 helps your body use the Vit D. K2 is also found in large quantities in fermented foods. I think perhaps why most people are lacking in D and getting sick is because we stopped eating fermented foods. Fermented foods feed our microbiome. The entirety of beneficial bacteria which live in and on our body. Specifically the microbiome in our GUT is why 90% of our immune system resides there.
#1 So, my NUMBER ONE and last tip is: Feed your Microbiome. If you feed your critters, they will feed you the minerals, vitamins, neurotransmitters, health & happiness back to you.
There are a few reasons we catch a cold or flu (and someone else doesn’t)
Extra stress in your body can lower your body’s ability to stay healthy. These include:
Not drinking enough water
Drinking too much alcohol
Eating too much sugar, and high-carbohydrates
Not getting enough of the Sun (vit D)
Chronic work, life, or relationship stress
An unbalance of good & bad bacteria in the gut (which is affected by eating processed foods, sugar, not enough fermented foods, and even stress).
Taking care of yourself is important to staying healthy. Your diet is best when you include mostly vegetables, fruits, mushrooms, nuts, seeds, organic grass-fed high quality proteins, and fermented foods.
Sometimes you also have to stick it out! The bad and the ugly, hock up loogies and crochet while binging through your favorite series on Netflix.
RECIPE: low-carb-high fat for your cold & flu. Basically just a concoction from tips above.
Recipe may last 1-2 meals:
- >2 cups Bone Broth simmered and add salt to taste. If you get this broth right from the juices that come out of a crock pot chicken it’s the BEST. Drink the fat at the top–it’s okay ;).
That’s it–that’s the recipe…if you don’t have any of the ingredients below.
For the fullest recipe, add as many of the ingredients below!!!
Bring bone broth to a simmer and add as many of the ingredients as you can.
If you DO NOT have fire cider, Add as many of these ingredients as you can to your broth while it’s simmering:
- 1-2 tsp ginger root chopped up
- 1-2 tsp horseraddish
- 1/4 cayenne pepper
- 1 TBSP tsp raw apple cider vinegar,
- OR “homemade fire ciderand skip the above ingredients.”
Add to broth:
- 1 TBSP of coconut oil
- 1 TBSP tumeric & 1 tsp black pepper OR 1 TBSP “ Golden Paste” <-click how to make
- handful of RESHI mushrooms (regular mushrooms are okay if you can’t get them).
- 2 eggs dropped and slightly cooked at the end
When broth is almost ready to eat in your bowl, top with:
- half or whole avocado sliced on top
- At least 4 RAW garlic cloves on top (Do not cook them. Make sure to chew them to release the anti-biotic allicin. Eating raw garlic is a lot easier when you are eating it with soup because raw garlic is strong & spicy!)
This might not be the best tasting soup in the whole world, but hey! You’re SICK! It feels worse being sick than drinking a medicinal soup! Remember, a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, but it will NOT let you heal!
Take it easy and get well soon!!
